COMPOSITE SPARS!

Carbon rigs are nothing new, they are now common in many classes. With a requirement to appear modern and to maximise the potential of a boats performance nobody launches a new class without a carbon rig.

There is no doubt that carbon spars are remarkable and a modern I14 mast can now weigh as little as 6kg, be constructed with no holes and with fixed spreaders to maximise strength while minimising weight and drag. It’s a technical subject and can prove to be a bit of a minefield, luckily we have all the knowledge and expertise required to help you with purchasing a new rig, upgrading your current one or in the event of damage we can repair composite spars with a finish of the highest standard.

SELDEN & SUPERSPARS
P&B have long running relationships with Selden and Superspar, supplying championship winning spars in both aluminium and composite materials, fitted out to P&B’s proven specifications and backed up by our tuning and sail manufacturing knowledge, you can expect a service second bar none!

PARAGON COMPOSITES
With an increasing demand for composite rigs P&B South are now the UK distributor for Paragon Composites, this is an exciting development as Paragon have been making huge progress over the past few years. It is great to be working with them to make the product readily available in the UK. Prototypes have already produced great results, finishing 2^nd at the Contender World Championships and turning heads in the Merlin Rocket fleet where Stuart Bithell used an early mast to win the 2012 Nationals, current National Champions Nick Craig and Alan Roberts have trialled the rig and look likely to build on the positive result of Simon Potts who used a Paragon mast at last year’s nationals recording a 5^th overall.

With kits being stocked and completed in house by our composite spar experts we are excited to be able to supply spars on a short lead time, built to an excellent standard and competitively priced.

SPAR REPAIR & REFURBISHMENT
One of the greatest things about carbon spars is they can be repaired and maintained to improve longevity. It is something that I have touched on before but sorting your carbon products when a problem first becomes evident and maintaining the mast coating will make for a mast that will last far longer.

P&B South offer a mast coating service for £200 which will ensure the resin is protected preventing breakdown and eventual failure. In the event that the worst does happen we can repair your mast quickly with an excellent standard of strength and finishing.

RIGGING & HALYARDS
Years of providing finished masts means P&B have the best record of rigging and halyard lengths for UK classes, we can provided complete rigging packs made to our winning specifications or can provide replacements of individual items where required.
