Royal Lymington Challenge Cup - Preview

by Chris Neve
3-5 June 2010

A three-boat interclub regatta for IRC yachts, which attracted eight teams in 2009, will once again be run from the Royal Lymington Yacht Club from 3rd to 5th June 2010.

The feedback from last year's inaugural event was “a great event with excellent race management. The two days racing in Christchurch Bay makes a very welcome change to plugging round the Solent. The team format and banding worked really well.” However, we have taken into account all the feedback and there will be some slight changes.

Once again, there will be racing in Christchurch Bay for two days and one day with two races in the western Solent.

The rating bands have been tweaked to allow more boats to compete:

With the change in the ISAF Sailor Classification code, this year, two Group 3 sailors will be allowed on board (see Notice of Race). To minimise time, crew lists and registration will be on-line and tickets for the social events can be purchased in advance.

On the social side, we kick off the event with a welcoming drinks party on Wednesday evening.

There will be a skippers briefing on Thursday morning at 0930, before the first race which will not start before 1130. Once again, with the help of our supporters, we will be offering pints of beer for a £1.00, which went down extremely well last year, there will be another Wight Vodka party and entertainment throughout the event.

So, what do you do next? Talk to your fellow Club Members and get your Club to enter a team. Get them to express their interest by completing the on-line form at www.rlymyc.org.uk/challengecup

Find your best sailors and their boats, give them the dates, and we will see you in the western Solent at the beginning of June. However, if you have any queries, or need to talk to someone, we are here to help. Please contact Kirsty Timmis on
