Fox's Marine and Country Alton Water Frostbite Series 2015 - Overall

1 March 2015
It was not to be.
The final Sunday of the series brought gales from the south and with no expectation that the weather would improve, racing was cancelled to little or no dissent – the likelihood of capsizing and air and water temperature not favourable probably influenced the management decision and competitor responses. Those sailors who were hoping to pick up some late results and drop some big scores were disappointed.
With 143 entries and up to 80 boats out racing each Sunday this was the most successful Frostbite series to date and probably one of the largest and most competitive in the UK.
Start planning for 2016 – the series will run for 9 consecutive Sundays from 3rd January and we have room for a few more. Expect good competitive racing, committee boat class/fleet starts with two back-to-back races scheduled per day with the first race starting at 11am.
For your correspondent 300 miles away on the English Riviera where the Lasers at their Qualifier did sail but some probably wished they hadn't, this makes it one of the easier (non) race reports to write. No apologies for the lack of storytelling this week as the focus is on those who deserve it... the sailors.
Thank you to Fox's Marine and Country for their generous sponsorship which provided vouchers for all those listed below as well as glassware for the top three in each class. The volunteers were not forgotten and all went home dry and warm for once. A special mention must go to Brandon Hastings in his Topper who sailed and completed all 16 races in what was the largest fleet – 48 boats – well done.
An acknowledgement is also due to the 'Professionals' – the paid Centre staff, who set up and pack away our race toys each week – 'thanks guys'.
And no report would be complete without reference to the Dragon Boat... five entries next year and they get a class start – and this race officer resigns!
