Entries are now open for Hong Kong Race Week 2015 which will be hosted by the Hong Kong Sailing Federation (HKSF) and the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club and sailed out of RHKYC's Middle Island sailing centre from 12 to 17 February, just before Lunar New Year.
Created by the Club in 2014 as a predominantly youth sailing event, featuring classes from the Asian Games and Olympic, Para Olympic and ISAF events, the 2015 event will be enlarged to incorporate a leg of the Asian Sailing Federation (ASAF) Youth Cup, which will attract top youth sailors from around the region to Hong Kong.
The organizer is pleased to announce that over 60 boats and boards are available to charter and expects a very competitive fleet over the four race courses, with 250 Hong Kong and international sailors contesting the following classes:
- Optimist
- Laser 4.7
- Laser Radial
- 29er
- 420
- Hobie 16
- RS One
- Techno 293
- Access 303
- 2.4 Metre
Charters will be allocated on a first come first served basis and will all be arranged through Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club. All charter information can be found on www.hongkongraceweek.com, together with the Notice of Race, Entry Form and volunteer enrolment forms.
Hong Kong Race Week is not just about the Olympic classes, it also features the Optimist Green Fleet – "where racing starts", which is aimed at competitors' younger siblings who want to find out what it's all about, or children who have learned to sail but have not tried racing.
The Optimist Green Fleet is designed to offer less experienced sailors real fleet racing in a training focused environment. Any sailors over the age of 9 who have completed a minimum of Optimist Step 4 are eligible to apply to join the Optimist Green Fleet, subject to approval and the availability of a boat.
Each younger sailor is asked to have a parent volunteer with them to assist with rigging and de-rigging. If anyone not resident in Hong Kong wishes join the Green Fleet, they should contact Eileen Sze at HKSF to enquire about eligibility and charter boat availability.
