In what must surely be the biggest single start race of TCYC boats ever, a total of 51 boats started our Bart's Bash race at Coombe Cellars on Sunday 21 September beating our target of twenty five boats by a huge margin.

The numbers were swelled by a considerable contingent of Cadet sailors some of whom were entering their first race ever. To have to negotiate a massed start with boats ranging from a Fireball to a Drascombe Dabber must have been daunting.

The Race team of Roger Pike, Jane Cumbley Kerslake and Peter Kerslake managed to get all the boats cleanly away from the start in a moderate Easterly breeze. The competitors were then kept busy as they were sent around the course for four laps.

The TCYC race was won by Peter Hearne in his new Solo "Mine's a Beer". Archie Miles was the highest placed Junior sailing an RS Tera. Full results for Bart's Bash will be published on their website shortly, www.bartsbash.co.uk.

A number of club members including Mike Commander and Jane Cumbley Kerslake knew Bart well, having ferried their own children to sailing events around the country where a young Bart also competed.

Rear Commodore Dinghies, Ray Potter, summed up: "The main purpose of the event was to celebrate the life of Bart and raise money for the Andrew Simpson Foundation and I'm pleased to say that over £550 was raised on the day. Contributing to the world-wide race, our club saw a huge 51 boats on the start line for the race, well over our target. A big thank you to all the 70 sailors who competed, the race management team, rescue teams and the many people who helped ashore with launching boats and cooking an endless supply of food and drinks: their hard work and dedication made this such a successful event."
