420 Autumn Championship at Poole Yacht Club

Despite the 420 fleet being greeted by a weekend of light and shifty conditions, PRO Colin Rainback did a great job to get seven races away for the 37 boats entered into the 420 Autumn Championships.

Race 1 saw Sarah Norbury and Mari Davies establish a large lead, leaving the rest of the pack to race amongst themselves.

After an out of character mid fleet finish in race 1, Inland Champions Martin Wrigley and Marcus Tressler resumed service with two bullets in the following races. However after a 2,2,3, Jenny Smallwood and Dani Thomas led the event overnight.

Day 2 saw further testing conditions, with spotting the pressure and accompanying shifts and avoiding the holes being the order of the day.

The tricky conditions meant almost everyone had a turn at the front, with 4 different race winners - Joe Burns and Matt Shorrock; Issy Davies and Gemma Keers; Sarah Jarman and Emily Walters and Jenny Cropley and Emma Baker.

Perhaps it was the old heads or perhaps just momentum, but the big lads managed to defy the odds and put together the most consistent series to come out on top, with Jenny Smallwood and Dani Thomas in second place and first girls.

Thank you to Poole YC to putting on a great event, to Tom Mapplebeck and Tim Rush fro supporting the sailors on the water, and to our sponsors, Curradinghy.
