A fantastic family festival at the PSP Southampton Boat Show

by Annabel Wildey 21 Jul 2014 18:49 BST 12-21 Septyember 2014

The internationally renowned PSP Southampton Boat Show has unveiled its plans for the 46th annual event. As one of Europe's biggest outdoor boat shows, visitors will be treated to an array of exciting attractions, exhilarating experiences and world-class boats, all set against a stunning backdrop of the Show's spectacular marina.

Running from Friday 12 September until Sunday 21 September 2014, the PSP Southampton Boat Show is the perfect opportunity for the whole family to banish those back-to-school blues with a fun-filled day out. This year's event located at Southampton's waterfront, boasts a number of new additions to the packed programme, not forgetting favourites from previous years. From boating accessories to superyachts, marine clothing to sailing holidays, the Show will offer everything needed to have fun whether on the water or land.

For the first time in the history of the Show, visitors will be able to take to the air on the new PSP Southampton Boat Show Eye. The impressive ride will whisk guests more than 100 feet off the ground for a spectacular 360 degree view of the Show and surrounding Southampton area. Once back on the ground visitors can enjoy the festival-like atmosphere of the Show with the wide range of entertainment on offer, from live music, socialising in one of the many bars to simply soaking up the seafaring celebrations.

Whether speeding across the waves care of the On The Water Try-a-Boat sessions or climbing aboard the historic tall ship Phoenix, there are plenty of opportunities to take to the water during the week. Novices can learn boating basics with the RYA Active Marina classes whilst more experienced mariners can join a team of 11 other tenacious sailors for a trip on a 72ft racing yacht in the Challenge 72 Round The World Experience. For those who prefer to watch from dry land, marvel at PSP Logistics; a 70ft ocean racing yacht, fresh from competing in the gruelling Clipper Round the World Yacht Race which finished earlier this month.

With a number of child friendly activities on offer such as the Get Afloat sessions, there is sure to be something for everyone to have a go at. Supported by the team at Rockley, these free 90 minute lessons are designed to help budding sailors discover a new hobby and explore the excitement of dinghy sailing to stand-up paddleboarding.

Murray Ellis, Managing Director of PSP Southampton Boat Show said "We're very excited about this year's PSP Southampton Boat Show, a perfect event for everyone passionate about the outdoors and what it has to offer. We hope to inspire visitors to try out something new for the day, whether that is on the water or even in the air! The mix of shopping, attractions, marine activities and boats will create a vibrant and exciting atmosphere for the whole family to enjoy.

"With our new attractions and hundreds of boats to climb aboard, many being unveiled for first time, it really will be a spectacular Show!"

Tickets to the PSP Southampton Boat Show start from £15 per adult with concessions available for over-60s, disabled visitors and groups of 10 people or more. Two children under the age of 15 go free with each paying adult.

Advanced tickets can be purchased from www.southamptonboatshow.com.
