Calling all 49er and FX sailors: your opinion is needed

by Adrian Peach 18 Jul 2014 15:31 BST 18 July 2014

49er sailors up and down the country might be pleased to know that the 29er class is considering inviting 49ers and FX's to join them in some of their already very successful Grand Prix circuit for 2015. The Circuit takes boats as far south as Torquay and North as the Yorkshire Dales.

The thought process behind the proposal is the 29ers already have a successful events calendar and the 49er outside the Olympic classes seem a bit thin on the ground. We know that there are 49ers and FX's up and down the country who are not as driven as the Olympic Development guys, however still enjoy the boat at a club racing level and this might motivate them to get mobile.

Plus this is a great way to showcase the 49er FX to the transitioning top end of the 29er fleet, especially as the RYA are now championing the transition in-between 29er and 49er with the FX.

We are trying to gauge opinion from 49er sailors to see if there is demand for more of a circuit, however the final say will be at the 29er AGM in August where the proposal will be put out to a vote.

The 29er Class are considering a trial event this September 27th and 28th at their Hayling Island GP, please get in touch if you feel this would be a good idea.

If you have a 49er, or FX rig then get in touch as the market is strong for used boats and equipment.

Any thoughts please email

Grabbing chances with both hands
Can bad weather actually lead to more sailing? There's been no getting away from the fact that it's been a pretty miserable start to 2024 weather-wise in the UK. February saw record rainfall (yes, I know we're famed for our rain over here), it's been seriously windy and generally chilly. Posted on 30 Apr
